The Armenian team of incarcerated persons took second place

The Armenian team of incarcerated persons took second place in an international online chess tournament.

On August 4, an international online chess tournament was held at the "Nubarashen" Penitentiary Institution of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, initiated by the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation. The tournament brought together convicted persons serving sentences in penitentiary institutions of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member countries.

The Armenian team included inmates serving sentences in the "Armavir," "Sevan," and "Vardashen" penitentiary institutions of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.

Before the start of the tournament, Deputy Head of the Penitentiary Service Vahe Nanushyan welcomed the participants from all countries and delivered opening remarks.

Highlighting the importance of organizing events in this format and implementing similar initiatives, the deputy head emphasized the significant role of chess in bringing people together, developing intellectual abilities, and contributing to social reintegration.

As a result of the intense competition, the team of the Republic of Belarus took first place, while the Armenian representatives, demonstrating a high level of preparation, secured the honorable second place.
