Armenia is once again becoming a chess epicenter

The European stage of the FIDE ISCF World Schools Team Championship 2026 has kicked off in Tsaghkadzor.

The championship officially began today, September 29, with an opening ceremony featuring a rich blend of Armenian national elements.

The opening ceremony featured speeches by newly elected FIDE President Timur Turlov and First Vice President of the Armenian Chess Federation, GM Smbat Lputian.

During the ceremony, special guests shared messages from children who participated in previous continental stages with this year’s participants.
