23rd Physical Disability World Individual Chess Championship

On July 19, the 23rd Physical Disability World Individual Chess Championship 2024 kicked off today at the Black Fortress Memorial Complex, Gyumri.

This championship is more than a mere competition; as it breaks down societal barriers and proves the immense capacity and potential of individuals who have faced life's hardships, turning challenges into opportunities.

It comes as no surprise that Gyumri was selected to host the championship, especially since it was named as the sports capital in 2024.

We proudly announce that this championship has brought 52 chess players from 14 countries to Gyumri.

FM Sargis Sargissyan, Mayis Melkonyan, Hambardzum Avetisyan and Hakob Martirosyan are participating in the championship from Armenia.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our sponsors for making this championship possible. Our thanks go to the Gyumri Municipality, Aghasi Inants (founder of Sava Company and Chairman of the Commission for the Disabled of the Armenian Chess Federation), Alfa Pharm Company represented by Samvel Shilajyan, Ralph Yirikian, the National Paralympic Committee of Armenia, Artak Gevorgyan as well as our supporters: Shirak provinsial administration, Electric Networks of Armenia, and Karen Gomtsyan (founder of Lentex Company).
