Ding Liren won in the first round

In the 1st round of the World Chess Championship 2024, current world champion Ding Liren beat Gukesh D with black pieces.

This is Ding's first win in classical chess since January 27.

For the first time since the 2010 Anand vs Topalov match, the first game of a title match ended decisively. In that game, Vishy Anand also lost to Veselin Topalov but went on to claim the title.

The 2nd game of the match set to take place on November 26 at 5 PM local time in Singapore.
