The first game of the opening round of the FIDE World Cup has finished
In the first game of the opening round of the 2025 FIDE World Cup, GM Gabriel Sargissian scored a victory with the white pieces over IM Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage from Sri Lanka.
GM Karen Grigoryan drew with the black pieces against GM Ahmed Adly from Egypt.
GM Robert Hovhannisyan drew with the black pieces against FM Mohan Kavin from Malaysia.
GM Haik Martirosyan also drew with the black pieces against FM Satria Duta Cahaya from Indonesia.
GM Shant Sargsyan (seeded 33rd) will join the competition from the second round. The top 50 players in the starting list begin directly from round two.
The tournament is held in a knockout format consisting of 8 rounds. Each round features two classical games. If the score is 1:1, the winner is decided in rapid and blitz tie-breaks.
The second game of the first round will start on November 2 at 13:30 Armenian time.
