FIDE Candidates Tournament

The 2026 Candidates Tournament is underway in Pegeia, Cyprus.

The winner of the Open tournament will earn the right to challenge reigning World Champion Gukesh Dommaraju for the title, while the winner of the Women's tournament will face the current Women's World Champion Ju Wenjun.

After Round 5, the standings in the Open tournament are as follows:

Fabiano Caruana – 3.5 points
Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa – 2.5 points
Anish Giri – 2.5 points
Matthias Bluebaum – 2 points
Wei Yi – 2 points
Hikaru Nakamura – 1.5 points
Andrey Esipenko – 1.5 points

The standings in the Women's tournament are:
Kateryna Lagno – 3 points
Anna Muzychuk – 3 points
Zhu Jiner – 3 points
Aleksandra Goryachkina – 2.5 points
